CHRISTINA'S

bio... living

Christina Kostara was born in Athens, Greece and she literally grew up around food. Her father owned a renowed destination restaurant of the 1980’s at the corner of Alexandras and Kifissias Avenue in downtown Athens, while her mother and grandmother introduced her to the art of cooking, teaching her not only culinary skills, but more significantly instilling in her the importance and value of good food- not just any food! She was further inspired by the overall concept of home cooking, as well as the smells, tastes, textures and colors of Mediterranean cooking. All this made her value the importance of seasonal food, pure, healthy ingredients, nutritious meals, and real taste.

Food, physical activity and health is in Christina’s genes, carried down to her young son who exhibits the same preferences. He’s living proof of the saying “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. As a parent, Christina loves teaching him about food, as she believes that a lifelong healthy attitude to food is more likely to develop in children when they’re young and impressionable.

Christina is a Nutritionist – Dietitian with a BSc from the Alexander Technological and Educational Institute, in Thessaloniki, Greece and an M.Sc (Medical Science) with merit in Human Nutrition Awarded with Specialization in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Glasgow (consistently at the top of the world university rankings and with a long tradition of excellence in Nutrition). Christina is a strong advocator of good food, food naturalness, eating well and joyfully, living in a healthy pattern and mindfulness that safeguard our overall health, happiness and general well-being, while at the same time preserving the health of Mother Earth.

When she was younger, she was a track and field athlete; nowadays, she never misses a chance to exercise. She doesn’t believe in “diets” and “forbidden foods”, but in the connection between eating well, sanity and balance (the ancient Greek doctrines “μέτρον ἂριστον”), being physically active, living at your optimal level of health and performance in body and mind and the feeling of overall wellness. You can thrive through good food. Food is the basic source of health and vitality since it provides the nutrients our body needs, and certain foods can provide specific health benefits in multiple areas such as growth, weight control, gut health, immunity effectiveness, skin health and beauty, healthy ageing, fertility, cognitive performance and mental health, athletic performance etc. The values of eating go beyond being the source of nourishment for our body. Eating involves our entire life, encompassing social and spiritual components and has the power to satisfy the harmony of the senses that foods promote, especially the taste sensation which offers pleasure, and the feeling of fullness or the feeling of being charged with energy.
Good health through foods and good taste can go hand in hand!
